Big Mike's "BBW 330M"

Just opened up a new kit to sister build with Steve's plane. Steve's is framed up and I got the semester break to try to get Mikes plane to the point Steve's is at. I have never opened up a Carden kit and not admired the work Caroline puts into packing this wood pack. Everything is neatly in place, all the plywood is sanded and looks well organized. I'll pull the wood pack and look at the sheeting sent with this kit.

Proposed:
DA170, RE3's. This plane will be set up for precision only, geometry wise. Plane will be lightened to accomodate the tuned pipes. Being a Carden I'll also include a pipe tunnel. I feel this keeps the inside cleaner over time, a tad cooler interior wise and overall a nicer build. My thought's on this plane for Mike is a long time keeper.

Wood bundle is extremely light, wing sheeting averages 24 grams per sheet. All is undamaged and edges are Carden clean. Kit was as usual ordered with the stock motorbox as I prefer to lighten this myself.

Motorbox: Being a creature of old habits the stock motorbox Carden has used for years works just fine, being too picky I'll say better. Other kits Carden included that have gone to the lazer cutting methods are a snap to assemble but other than convenience offer nothing to me. This motorbox will require a lot of work to shed the weight not needed, be hand fitted, glued and when its done in my eye's beautiful. Laser cutting produces charred edges, something that is more resistant to strong glue joints and basically to me looks dirty. I'll take my dear sweet time and make it as usual, like it's mine..

All the pieces are marked from the Templates, layed out and ready to cut in the corners with a forstner bit. The firewall is already done and set for a SWB mount with 1/4-20 blind nuts to anchor the DA170...

ps, Thanks Mike Bargman for keeping the Pit's going, This should be a lot of fun, TBOOBS? STFU

Motorbox is pretty much cut up. I usually get around 20oz's out of this, More if I sub out the gear plate with balsa which on this build I will. I"ll clean all this up a little more and start the assembly.....
